This past week was the widely (among certain circles anyway) celebrated 20th birthday of the vim editor. It’s frustratingly difficult to learn, but really pretty amazing once you get the hang of it. I say this having achieved the very most basic hang, after years of occasional use. Yes, years, and I only have something slightly more than the basics down.
What makes it so good? I tried to write this paragraph a few times but I can’t do it justice. is way, way better than mine could ever be. Usefully, there’s also a page of handy vim keyboard shortcuts (you’ll need to know these).
